Wrestlemania 27 Review

April 4, 2011

By Pavitar Sidhu

Wrestlemania 27 wasn't the greatest Wrestlemania by a long shot and it didn't quite live up to its expectations, but it was a good event nonetheless.

Edge Vs Alberto Del Rio - World Heavyweight Championship
It was kind of odd seeing this match as the opener for the show, but it delivered and both men put on a good performance. I'm glad WWE didn't rush by putting the World Title on Alberto Del Rio too early. He's simply not ready yet.
Winner: Edge

Cody Rhodes Vs Rey Mysterio
The match was extremely good, and had some very entertaining spots. WWE went the right direction by giving Rhodes the win because he needs it a lot more than Mysterio does.
Winner: Cody Rhodes

Santino Marella, Kofi Kingston, Kane and Big Show Vs Wade Barrett, Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel and Ezekiel Jackson
This was probably the worst match on Wrestlemania's card this year. It was more of a comedic role filler more than anything. It didn't accomplish much of anything for either team.
Winner: Santino Marella, Kofi Kingston, Kane and Big Show

Randy Orton Vs CM Punk
The overall match was very good, and the buildup leading to it was tremendous as well. I think the win should've been given to Punk though because he needs to extra credibility.
Winner: CM Punk

Michael Cole Vs Jerry Lawler
This match had a tremendous buildup (probably the best on the card), but most fans weren't expecting an in-ring classic. The ending worked perfectly too because it helps extend Cole's character.
Winner: Michael Cole

The Undertaker Vs Triple H
As expected, the two veterans put on a very good match. Most fans already knew that Undertaker's streak was not going to be ending, so the match was good solely for it's in-ring value.
Winner: The Undertaker

Snooki, Trish and John Morrison Vs Michelle, Layla and Dolph Ziggler
This match was purely for marketing purposes. The media exposure that Snooki offered WWE was what the company sought after, and they got it. It was pretty obvious that Snooki's team was going to be picking up the win because of the media coverage she would receive if she wins.
Winner: Snooki, Trish and John Morrison

The Miz Vs John Cena - WWE Championship
The entire match was overshadowed by the fact that fans were waiting for The Rock to come out. It was very obvious that he was going to get involved in some manner, and of course, he did. He cost Cena the title which extended their feud, and The Miz surprisingly retained the WWE Championship
Winner: The Miz
