Sheamus Wins 2012 Royal Rumble

In a somewhat surprising move, WWE decided to have Sheamus win this year's Royal Rumble match, and he will now go on to WrestleMania 28 to challenge for one of the world titles.

This was kind of a swerve by management because no one was really expecting Sheamus to win the Royal Rumble. He has been involved in meaningless matches with Jinder Mahal for the past few weeks on Smackdown, and he clearly did not have any attention on him.

Many were predicting for the returning Chris Jericho to win the match, and go on to face CM Punk for the WWE Title at WrestleMania, but that will still probably take place.

Sheamus will most likely challenge Daniel Bryan for the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania. The appeal just isn't there for a CM Punk and Sheamus match. Plus, they're both faces. WWE generally avoids having two baby faces feuding one another.

It might be that Daniel Bryan was simply a transitional champion. As Randy Orton is heavily rumored to be returning to Raw during the annual WWE Draft this year, Smackdown will need a new top star.

The Celtic Warrior also has management's support backstage. Triple H is said to be behind him as well since the two are close friends in real life.

The good thing is that Sheamus has had the proper build up into this win, and he is a crowd favourite. Fans have seen him in the main event before, so this is nothing new for them.

The Royal Rumble was an interesting event this year. Fans were pleasantly surprised to see Sheamus eliminate Chris Jericho for the win, and expect him to square off against Daniel Bryan for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 28.
