Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross

Jim Ross Returns to WWE

March 16, 2011

After much anticipation, Jim Ross, finally made his return to WWE; however, it may be in a different role than you might've expected.

October 13, 2009 was the date we last saw the legendary announcer, Jim Ross with WWE. He had asked for a day off to spend time with his wife for their anniversary. A week later, he suffered a Bell's Palsy attack.

Many fans were growing restless of not having Jim Ross at the commentating booth. Fans were further disappointed when they learned that Jim's contract had expired on May 1, 2010 and it hadn't been renewed.

We saw the rise of Michael Cole as the new "voice of WWE" after Ross' departure, but he never really won over the fans, and instead, become one of the most hated heels of all time.

During this week's edition of Raw, fans were served a nice treat as they saw finally witnessed Jim Ross setting foot inside a WWE ring once again after nearly 2 years.

He made the appearance on Raw to try and convince Michael Cole that he was taking the wrong route by challenging Jerry Lawler. Things didn't go to well as Jack Swagger soon made his way to the ring and assaulted both Lawler and Jim Ross.

Unfortunately, JR isn't returning as an announcer. He's making his return in a behind-the-scenes role. It involves dealing with many aspects of talent relations including talent payroll, scouting and talent development.

Although I would much rather see Jim Ross replacing Jerry Lawler as a commentator, I'm still content with this as Ross has played a vital role within WWE in the past in helping talent like Stone Cold and The Rock. It shouldn't be any different now.
