David Otunga a Celebrity Connection for WWE

In October 2008 David Otunga signed a developmental contract with WWE. He spent a couple of years at Florida Championship Wrestling, until he was called up to NXT season 1, where he was runner up.
Since then he has been a member of Nexus, The New Nexus and is a two time tag team champion. He is currently the ‘legal advisor’ to John Laurinitis. Recently, we have not seen him in the ring, and, although he is in great shape, his in ring work is not the best.
It is common knowledge that he is engaged to Jennifer Hudson, and they have children together. Is this why WWE still have him on contract? With Otunga on the books, WWE stand more chance of getting big names involved with the company, through their contact with Ms Hudson.
Truth be told, WWE have enough sway without Otunga on the books – just look at the celebrities involved in the past – Limp Bizkit, Nickleback, Mike Tyson, Seth Green and Hugh Jackman to name a few. WWE do not need whatever connections Otunga might have to be able to draw stars in.
However, people who do not watch wrestling might tune in to check out ‘that guy who is engaged to Jennifer Hudson’ if only out of curiosity.
Its safe to say that having Otunga work for WWE cannot harm their celebrity connections, however he was not employed for that, nor is it the reason he is still employed. Granted, Otunga is not the best in the business, nor is he likely to ever be, but his microphone work is acceptable, and with a little bit of work, his in ring work will become reasonable too.
