Brodus Clay Character

After weeks and weeks of being hyped, and weeks of delays Brodus Clay has finally made his debut. It is safe to say that nobody expected Clay to hail from ‘Planet Funk’ or that he would refer to himself as the ‘Funkosaurus’. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
It is common knowledge the Brodus Clay was due to be the person who ‘took out’ John Morrison on his last Raw, however due to putting this on Twitter, it was changed, and it seemed Clay was in the doghouse.
Even after that, there were promo’s about Clay’s debut, which continuously got put back, and it seemed that he would never debut. Now he has, and he has taken on a completely different character.
Many believe that this was WWE’s way of punishing Clay. The indications were that Clay was going to be a monster heel, and the promo’s seemed to show that. The fact that he was supposed to take out Morrison also suggest that.
Taken at face value, the Funkosaurus is a terrible idea, and people would be right to believe he was being punished, however this could be the greatest thing that could happen to Clay.
Rumour has it that changing Clay’s character was an idea to give him something fresh to use. Over the years, we have seen many monster heels who seem to get lost in mid card obscurity, Clay’s character, although similar to previous wrestlers (think Flash Funk crossed with Rikishi), it has something about it.
Much praise must be given to Clay – he has jumped head first into this, and his giving the character his all. It really seems that he is having fun with it, and the fans have picked up on that. Straight after Raw, the internet was buzzing with talk about Brodus Clay, and the general consensus is that this character is entertaining.
Regardless of whether it was a punishment or not, this character has potential. He is not likely to win world titles as the Funkosaurus, but it will certainly give him a stepping stone to develop further.
